To Display or Not to Display?

So you hire a photographer, get family pictures done and … then what? One of my favorite things as a photographer is getting pictures like this from a family you photographed.

Isn't that a beautiful display! I love it! There are so many ways to display your pictures, that it can get overwhelming. Here are some ideas to help you.

First off, for printing: I have a few places for various printing needs but my all-time favorite for professional quality photos is Mpix. They are reasonably priced and often have sales. I love getting my prints from them. Getting my packages is like Christmas all over again!

Once I get them printed, the hardest part for me is where to put them? I finally created a gallery wall in my living room, but that took me forever! I first had the frames to figure the layout of the gallery.

Then I cut out paper that represented each frame. That made it easier to put on the wall using ticky-tack and not put so many holes in the wall as I moved them around until I got them into the positions I wanted.

After getting the positions right, I marked where on the paper the position of the hanger is. Then I put the pin in the paper on the wall. I took down the paper then returned the pin to the position it was in and hung the frame!

So easy.

If you don’t want to mess with putting a bunch of holes in your wall, you can use 3M Command strips or hooks. You can also get some shelving to display your pictures.

The most important part is not how you do it, but that you do it!

Huffington Post just ran an article about how family portraits boost kids’ self-esteem.

“I think it is really important to show a family as a family unit. It is so helpful for children to see themselves as a valued and important part of that family unit. A photographer’s job is to create and make the image look like a safe holding space for kids where they are safe and protected. Kids get it on a really simple level.”

I agree so much with it! I want my kids to know where they belong. If they know where they belong, they won't be looking elsewhere.
