This birth was a dream come true for Sydney Hardin and her husband Josh. She had an unmedicated birth and delivered a healthy baby boy on her due date! This was huge! Her previous births went over 40 weeks and she was induced with both. She wanted a different experience this time and loved it.
The day of Max's due date, Josh and Sydney had plans to go on an outing as a family. But baby Max had different plans! She was only at a 1 cm in the days leading up to his birth, but after laboring at home for a bit with doula Dani Reed from Mind Over Maternity, they headed to the hospital where she was measuring at a 4. They decided to keep her and she slowly progressed over the next several hours. She even got to use a water proof, wireless heart rate and contraction monitor allowing her to labor in the tub.

All of a sudden, things picked up rather quickly. I got the text that she was at 7 cm around 7 p.m. and that I needed to get there quick.
I jumped in the car and took off to American Fork, going as fast as I dared. I was about half way there when I got another text: Sydney was at a 9+. Oh geez, I was so scared I was going to miss it! When I was about 3 minutes away from the hospital, Dani said her water had broken and she was complete. Oh dang. I parked the car and took off running for the doors. The elevator ride was the longest of my life. I breathlessly ran into the room where everyone was prepping for baby's arrival. Sydney was pushing and baby was crowning as I started snapping pictures. Four minutes after I arrived, baby was born at 8:02 p.m.
Erica Nelson from the Valley Womens Health American Fork Midwives Group helped Josh deliver baby Max. She is awesome. She was also Dani's midwife when she had her last daughter.
Since it was still early, Sydney's mom brought their two boys over to meet their new baby brother.
It was love at first sight for Emmett and Rory. I think that gifts that "Max" brought helped warm them up too, especially the candy haha!
One of the best parts of going unmedicated (if possible), is a quick recovery period. Sydney quickly moved off the bed and was able to use the bathroom right away. She was so happy with the difference between this birth and her other births.
