Fast and Furious
The text came around dinner time. "She's at 8 cm." It was my friend's husband who sent it, alerting me that I needed to get my rear in gear. I had a 30 minute drive to the hospital so I looked at my husband and said, "See ya." I was gone.
My heart was thumping, the adrenaline rushing as I prayed I'd get there in time and that I wouldn't get pulled over either (I wasn't speeding *that* bad). Riverton Hospital was new to me. I parked in three different areas before finding where the main entrance was for labor and delivery. I flat out ran through the hallways and finally taking a breather in the elevator ride. I rushed into the room and after greetings were given and noticing baby was still safe in mom still, I breathed a sigh of relief.
Contractions were hitting mom fast and furious and baby descended and was crowning less than an hour after I got there. Baby came out in a couple of pushes, if that. What a joyous moment as they saw baby number four (and number last) come speedily earthside.
